Public invited to special Alzheimer’s presentation at Clark Gardens

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. It is the only major cause of death without a way to prevent, cure or even slow its progression.

On Thursday, May 23, 10 a.m. to noon, Clark Gardens Botanical Park will host a program, open and free to the public, offering an Alzheimer’s research update presented by Dr. Sid O’Bryant.

O’Bryant is associate professor of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.

He will highlight the major strides that have been made in recent years in understanding Alzheimer’s disease, which currently affects more that 5.4 million Americans. He will also review the current areas of research that hold the most promise for finding better treatments for this mind-robbing disease.

There will be ample time for questions and answers following the presentation.

Dr. O’Bryant leads a research study focusing on translational aging and Alzheimer’s disease, including developing a blood test for Alzheimer’s. His research group is working to foster collaborative research opportunities across disciplines to better understand the aging condition and have particular expertise in studying aging issues among under-served Latino elders.

In support of the Alzheimer’s Association, Clark Gardens is hosting this informative and timely presentation about Alzheimer’s disease and progress in research. Clark Gardens is located at 657 Maddux Road.

Support also has been provided by the Area Agency on Aging.

The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. Please call the Alzheimer’s Association at 1-800-272-3900 to make your reservation.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care and support, and the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research.
