Set in 1876, a western feature called “The Legend of Hell’s Gate” was filmed extensively in and around the Possum Kingdom Lake destination to which the title refers.
The film premieres tonight in Denison at the Rialto Theater.
According to writer, director, and actor Tanner Beard, the subject of the film arose from memories of his childhood.
“I grew up going to Possum Kingdom Lake and always loved to go out to Hell’s Gate,” he said, calling it “an intriguing structure.”
He later came across the legend of Hell’s Gate and decided to look further into the historical accounts associated with it.
