A team of Santo 4-H students descended upon the State Fair of Texas with their animals earlier this month and brought home big Texas wins.
Lilly Motley won both reserve champion heavyweight division and overall reserve grand champion market goat with the wether goat she raised since last December for the show.
Her younger brother, Grant, placed second in his division.
The Motley crew wasn’t the only Santo representatives in Dallas. Once again, Ashlyn Tucker placed well, taking third place in her market-goat division.
Because of their high placings, the goats of all three Santo students qualified to sell at auction.
According to Palo Pinto County Agrilife Extension Agriculture Agent Scott Mauney, Lilly Motley’s goat brought $5,000 at auction and the other two brought in close to $1,000 each.
In addition to goat placings, Santo’s Justin Rico again took a steer to the State Fair, where he placed second in the all-other-breed category. Mauney said Rico’s steer sold at auction for $3,100.
