Mineral Wells Index
Special to the Index
Gabriella Kindle, a senior at Mineral Wells High School, has achieved the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. She has been selected as a Soprano 1 in the 2014 Texas Music Teachers’ Association (TMEA) All-State Mixed Choir.
Gabriella began working in June of 2013, when workshops begin for the chosen audition material.
The competitive process begins in September, with over 16,000 vocal students from all over Texas, separated into 28 regions.
Each student performs the selected music for a panel of judges who rank each voice.
The second part of the audition requires the student to sight-read, singing unknown and unrehearsed music that has never been seen before.
Gabbie was the highest-ranked Soprano I in her group at this level, and so advanced to the Area competition, where the top-ranked students from each of seven areas are again judged on additional music.
This competition was held in November, and the remaining top students advanced to the final round, which was held Jan. 11, 2014 in Abilene.
At this elite level, the students are competing together from all classifications of Texas high schools, from Classes A to 5A.
Only the top 10 vocalists in each of eight voice groups win a place in the All-State Mixed Choir. Gabriella placed third in this final process, receiving a perfect score in sight-reading.
She will participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the annual state TMEA Clinic/Convention, culminating in a performance on Feb. 15, 2014 at Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
This performance, before thousands of attendees, brings this extraordinary event to a close.
