Participants are invited to take part in the Palo Pinto County Relay for Life 2013, set to begin May 3 at 7 p.m. at the Mineral Wells High School track.
The signature event of the American Cancer Society will also be a centennial celebration for the organization.
Organizers of the annual overnight gathering invite anyone from the community to join in the celebration of cancer survivors, remembrance of lost love ones, and a united effort to fight the disease.
"As we gather, we realize that we are not alone in our fight against cancer," said local coordinator Lanelle Davis.
Admission to the relay is free but attendees will have opportunities to help raise funds via a variety of family friendly activities. All money raised goes directly to the ACS.
Berry explained all money raised through sponsorships and fundraising activities during the event go to fund research and a variety of support programs.
After opening ceremonies, survivors will take part in a lap around the track wearing their designated purple shirts. Caregivers and relay teams will follow and, until the event ends 12 hours later, someone will be walking at all times to represent the constant fight
Attendees can purchase a luminaria, which will line the track in honor or memory of a loved one, at the event or in advance by calling (940) 445-7380. The luminaria ceremony will begin at 9 p.m.
Another ceremony will begin at midnight and activities continue throughout the event.
In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at Southside Church of Christ, 1401 S.E. 25th Ave.
