With 79 volunteers working on behalf of at least 268 children, CASA of Palo Pinto and Parker Counties depends on local funding to continue serving its mission.
CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, trains volunteers to advocate for the best interest of abused or neglected children in the court system. These advocates serve as a judge's eyes and ears outside of the courtroom.
Through fundraising events – such as the recent 2nd Annual CASA Fore-the-Kids Golf Tournament – CASA is able to provide appropriate training and help young victims of violence transition into a new setting.
One local bank is appealing to dessert lovers in a current fundraising campaign to assist one such volunteer.
State Bank of Mineral Wells is taking part in an ongoing cake auction – with bidding beginning at $35 – which will continue until Friday.
To bid on one of the homemade cakes, visit the local branch at 101 S.E. 1st Ave., or call (940) 325-7821. All funds collected will assist the local advocate in helping the children she represents into a new home.
Any additional money raised will be deposited in CASA's general fund.
CASA is also currently engaged in a monthlong campaign aimed at raising money for the organization one dollar at a time.
