Presentation brings back memories

Residents of Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehab were treated to a unique presentation Wednesday as many were able to personally relate to various local artifacts.

Rollie and Dianne Hudnell, owners of Tattered Teddy Antique Shoppe in downtown Mineral Wells, visited the seniors to guide them through a wealth of historical items from this community.

Rollie Hudnell said the facility's activities director, Nancy Cary, initially developed the idea.

"Nancy came by one day and asked if we'd be interested in coming out," he said.

He and his wife share a deep respect for the generation represented in the audience, he explained, and were happy to share their passion for local history with dozens of residents.

"A lot of those people had worked at the Baker or Camp Wolters," he said. "We might have learned as much as them."

Dianne Hudnell said a 1950 issue of Mineral Wells High School's yearbook, the Burro, elicited many memories among those present.

"Some residents found themselves," she said, noting many were able to find some personal tie to the yearbook or some other item presented.

Though many items were connected to the Baker Hotel, Rollie Hudnell said an extensive personal collection includes one-of-a-kind items from throughout Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County.

The Tattered Teddy also boasts a wide selection of historical local documents and antiques.

"We're pro-Mineral Wells," Dianne Hudnell said. "We're both from here."

For that reason, she said the business has made community outreach a priority.

Rollie Hudnell said the retailer recently served as host for the Mineral Wells Study Club and looks forward to other opportunities to remain involved. locally.
