W.K. Gordon Center hosts camp

From staff reports

THURBER – The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas will host “A Day in Thurber” Kids’ Camp at the museum grounds on June 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The camp is open to children who will be entering grades four through six.

Thurber ghost town once had a population of 10,000 people and 18 nationalities. In the early 1900s, Thurber had a bustling downtown, two schools, many stores and services and a vibrant multicultural, community life. At “A Day in Thurber,” children will play games, make crafts, do activities and explore museum exhibits to find out what life was like during Thurber’s boom years.

The cost of the camp is $5 per child. Campers will need to provide their own lunches, however afternoon snacks will be provided. To register, contact the W.K. Gordon Center at (254) 968-1886 or by email to mkadams@tarleton.edu. You may also find registration information on our website: www.tarleton.edu/gordoncenter.

The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas is a museum and research facility of Tarleton State University. It is located at Exit 367 on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Abilene. This program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities, Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
