Hay, Beef & Forage Day March 26

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services of Palo Pinto, Young, Jack, Stephens counties and the Young County Farm Bureau Board invite all agricultural producers and the public to take part in the annual Hay, Beef and Forage Day. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at the Young County Arena, starting at 9 a.m.

"It's a program to help producers that are raising [hay], beef and forage to keep up to date on new technology. Palo Pinto County Extension Agent Scott Mauney said. "It's [also] an educational event, so [the public] will receive educational training on the different topics we will be discussing."

“In Palo Pinto County and the Rolling Plains, the most pressing need for all concerned is rainfall,” Young County Extension Agent Brad Morrison said. “Being realistic, optimistic, and hopeful, we are one day closer to meaningful rains – it is spring.”

This year’s “Hay Day” is designed to target specific ag industry issues.

Speakers will include R.A. Brown Ranch's Donald Brown, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Forage Specialist Dr. Larry Redmon, Texas A&M Agrilife Economist Stan Bevers and Texas Farm Bureau Board's Michael White.

Pasture and range health, weather in times of abundant or limited rainfall must be evaluated and cared for. The issues of drought, fertility, insects, weeds, stocking rate and water quality all combine to determine the health of the ecosystem that is pasture.

Cattle prices have reached never seen prices. This only amplifies the importance of the bull(s) that producers are trusting to mate with limited cow numbers. Producers will be given hands on opportunity and insight as they view and discuss bull prospect that will be brought in by Donald Brown. Brown will lend his expertise on the value of a bull, ranging from selection to the animals time of service to the herd.
