Library offers program on protection from investment fraud

Weatherford Democrat

WEATHERFORD — Benjamin Franklin stated, “An ounce of caution is worth a pound of cure.”

Learn how to defend yourself against promoters of fraudulent or inappropriate investments by:

• Being aware of the tactics they use.

• Knowing how to carefully check all investment material they provide.

• Knowing how to investigate their credentials before investing in the opportunity that they offer.

Kimberly Shaw, securities compliance examiner, and Martha Fagley, examination management specialist, with the Fort Worth Regional Office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, will reveal patterns of investor fraud and describe various resources available for an investor’s protection and education. A question-and-answer period will follow a short presentation on Tuesday, June 10, at 10 a.m., at Boyce Ditto Public Library.

Specific types of risky investments the SEC has recently investigated or prosecuted will be highlighted. Some of those involved various types of promissory notes and high-yield offerings, oil and gas projects, life settlement investments and private offerings.

Coffee and tea will be served. Call 940-328-7880, email library@mineralwellstx.gov or sign up for a reminder of the event.
