MILLSAP — The Millsap Bulldogs baseball team climbed to 15-3 on the season and to 3-1 in District 10-2A play on Friday with a 3-2 win over the Godley Wildcats.
Godley took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning before Millsap made the score 1-1 with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
Bulldogs senior southpaw Tanner Riggs opened the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on an error.
Godley took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning when Riley Gool tripled and scored an unearned run on a wild pitch.
Millsap took the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Base hits by Millsap’s Landon Meeker, Kyle Benton and Dan Davidson keyed the rally.
Riggs, 7-1, went the distance on the mound and picked up the win.
The Southpaw tossed a three-hitter, walked four batters and piled up 13 strikeouts in the win at Millsap High School.
Riggs said he could have pitched better.
“I didn’t have my best day, but I came through when I had to,” Riggs said. “It’s good to get the win.”
Millsap head baseball coach Brad Littlefield said pitching made the difference.
“We got good pitching but we didn’t hit the ball very well. We’ve got to get better hitting,” Littlefield said. “We’ still have 10 district games left to play. We‘re going to need to win eight or nine of them to get into the playoffs.”
Godley pitcher Rowdy Allen, who threw a six-hitter, went the distance on the mound and was tagged with the loss.
