High School baseball, softball playoffs set to unfold

The UIL state baseball and softball playoffs are set to unfold tonight and on Saturday in Mineral Wells and in the surrounding area.

Boys and girls playoff teams from Millsap are set to play in a pair of best-of-three games playoff series.

The Millsap Lady Bulldogs softball team is looking forward to playing the Maypearl Lady Panthers in a an area championship series.

The series was originally slated at Euless Trinity High School but was rescheduled at Burleson High School, according to Millsap coach Louie Chapman.

While the Lady Bulldogs are set to play today and Saturday in Burleson, the Bulldogs baseball team is ready to play a bi-district series against the Olney Cubs tonight and on Saturday in Graham.

Baseball teams from Peaster, Alvord, Wichita Falls Rider and Keller Fossil Ridge are each set for playoff series tonight and Saturday at Pratt Park.

The following is a game-by-game look at the weekend’s playoff schedule:

Girls Softball

Millsap vs. Maypearl

The Millsap High School Lady Bulldogs softball team is ready to open an area title series against the Maypearl Lady Panthers at Burleson High School.

Tonight’s series opener between Millsap and Maypearl starts at 7 p.m. The second game of the series in Burleson starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday. A third game, if needed, is set to start 30 minutes after the end of Saturday's first game.

Notes ... Millsap, 20-7, finished the District 10-2A race in a first-place tie with the Brock Lady Eagles. A coin flip sent Brock into the playoffs as the district’s top seed and made Millsap a second-place team in terms of playoff seeding.

Aledo vs. Sherman

The District 8-4A champion Aledo Lady Bearcats, 30-1, are set to play the Sherman Lady Bearcats, 20-12, in a home-and-home area title series tonight and on Saturday.

Tonight’s series opener is slated at 7 p.m. in Sherman. Game-two of the Aledo-Sherman series is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Aledo.

Eastland vs. Crawford

The Eastland Lady Mavericks, 23-8, finished in third place in the District 10-2A softball race and are set to play the Crawford High School Lady Pirates, 18-6, in an area title series in Stephenville.

Brock vs. Bruceville-Eddy

The Brock Lady Eagles, 19-7, are ready to play an area title series against Bruceville-Eddy High School, 13-9, tonight and Saturday at Glen Rose High School.

Varsity Boys

Millsap vs. Olney

Millsap coach Brad Littlefield said he feels confident going into the bi-district series against Olney.

“We should do pretty well against Olney. I really like our chances in the first game of the series,” the Millsap coach said.

The Millsap-Olney series is set to start tonight at 8 p.m. in Graham. The second game and third game of the series, if needed, are slated on Saturday in Graham.

The Bulldogs, 21-10, set a school record for wins on Monday with a district playoff game win over the Cisco Lobos.

Notes ... The District 10-2A champion Brock Eagles have a bye in the opening round of the playoffs.

Wichita Falls Rider vs. Keller Fossil Ridge

Class 4A baseball teams from Wichita Falls Rider and Keller Fossil Ridge, 22-8, are set to meet in a bi-district series tonight and on Saturday at Mineral Wells’ Pratt Field.

Tonight’s series opener starts at 7 p.m. The second game of the series is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The third game of the series, if needed, is set to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday’s first game.

Peaster vs. Alvord

The Peaster Greyhounds and the Alvord Bulldogs are set to meet today and Saturday in a Class 2A bi-district series at Pratt Field.

Notes ... Peaster defeated Millsap on Monday in a district playoff game and finished in second place in the District 10-2A baseball race.

Crowley High School vs.

Fort Worth Southwest

The Crowley Eagles, 16-8, took third place in District 8-4A play and are ready to play Fort Worth Southwest , 20-4, in a home-and-home bi-district series.

The series opener is set to start at 7 p.m. tonight in Crowley. The second game of the series is slated at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Fort Worth Southwest High School.

Fort Worth South Hills

vs. Cleburne High School

The Cleburne Yellow Jackets, 25-8, settled for second place in the District 8-4A baseball race and are ready to play the Fort Worth South Hills Hawks in a bi-district series.

The series opener is scheduled at 7 p.m. tonight in Cleburne.

The second game of the series is set to start at noon on Saturday at Arlington Heights High School.

Notes ... The Joshua Owls, 24-6, won the District 8-4A baseball title and have a bye in the opening round of the playoffs.
