Wildcats last team standing in playoffs

Just one team from the Mineral Wells area is still alive in the state playoffs — that team is the Santo High School Wildcats.

The Wildcats won a district championship and had a bye in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Wildcats are set to open play against Wolfe city in the area round of the Class 1A playoffs. The site, date and time of the area playoffs have not been announced.

Wolfe City advanced to the area round of the state class 1A playoffs with wins in two of three games over Collinsville in a bi-district series.

While the Wildcats are getting ready for the playoffs, boys and girls teams from Millsap, Santo, Graford and Gordon ended the season with playoff losses last week.

The Millsap Bulldogs opened the bi-district series on Friday in Graham with a 7-4 win over the Olney Cubs.

The Bulldogs, 22-11, faced elimination on Saturday in Graham when the Cubs took wins in the second and third games of the series.

Olney took an 11-7 win in Saturday’s opener and put the series title away with a 14-8 win in the third game of the series.

Millsap took third place in District 10-2A play and ended the year with a school-record 22 wins.

The Millsap Lady Bulldogs softball team ended the season with back-to-back losses to the Maypearl Lady Panthers on Friday and Saturday in Burleson.

Maypearl opened the area title series with a 5-1 win over Millsap on Friday.

The Lady Panthers, 18-4, put the area series away with a 7-1 victory over the Lady Bulldogs, 20-9, on Saturday.

Millsap finished in a first-place tie in District 10-2A play and won a bi-district title before ending the season at Lady Elks Field in Burleson.

The Gordon Longhorns finished in second place in the District 12-1A race and ended the season with a 7-0 bi-district loss to the Poolville Monarchs.

The Graford Lady Jackrabbits took third place in the District 9-1A softball race before taking a 6-0 loss to Windthorst in bi-district play.

The Santo Lady Wildcats finished in second place in the District 9-1A softball race and lost a 13-0 bi-district game to Petrolia.
