Small signs letter of intent with Allen Community College

Lady Rams senior forward Creshia Small was probably her team’s most improved player during her last two seasons at Mineral Wells High School.

Small was pressed into a starting role as a junior and became a key contributor for the Lady Rams as a senior.

A week ago, Small signed a national letter of intent and received a basketball scholarship from Allen Community College.

Small said she is looking forward to moving to Iola, Kan., and that she will enjoy playing for the Allen Community College Red Devils basketball team.

Small, who played as a junior for former Lady Rams coach Shannon Lisenbe and under Michael Oldham as a senior, said she was more concerned with being a success in the classroom than she was in being a college basketball player.

“I was more focused on my grades. I really didn’t start thinking about it until the middle of my senior year,” Small said. “I’m happy about it. I’m looking forward to playing basketball next fall.”

Allen Community College Red Devils Women’s Head Basketball Coach Aaron Kallhoff contacted Small and arranged a visit to the campus.

“I really liked the campus and I like the coaches,” Small said.

Oldham said Small is ready to play at the college level.

“I’m sure she will do a fine job,” Oldham said. “Creshia did a good job for us. She worked hard for me and she was easy to coach. She has a lot of untapped potential because she is so coachable.”

Small, an A student at MWHS, said she plans to pursue a degree in education.

“I want to be a diagnostician,” Small said.
