MW Tack Club set for opening workouts



The Mineral Wells Track Club is getting ready to get the summer season going.

Registration for the summer track and field program is ongoing, according to longtime Mineral Wells track coach Jackie Harvey.

The Mineral Wells Track Club is open to boys and girls entering the first through the 12th grades.

The summer track team from Mineral Wells will participate in a series of TAAF meets.

Team members will compete in six separate age groups during the summer track and field meets.

The team will hold its first practice on June 2 at the Jackie Harvey Track Complex. The cost to join the Mineral Wells Track Club is $25 per person.

Track club members who are 13 years old and under will practice between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on June 2.

Members of the team who are 14 years of age and older will practice between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Lady Rams coach set to host girls basketball



Mineral Wells High School Lady Rams Head Basketball Coach Michael Oldham and the Lady Rams coaches will be on hand for a series of girls basketball camps and clinics.

A Skills Camp is scheduled June 16-20 at Mineral Wells High School and is open to female players who will be entering the second through the ninth grades.

Skills Camp sessions for players in the second through the sixth grades are set between 9 a.m. and noon while sessions for players in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades will be held between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The skills camp costs $55 per player. A shooting camp for players entering the fifth through the ninth grades is slated between 9 a.m. and noon June 23-27 at MWHS. The cost of the camp is $40 per player.

An Advanced Skills and Team Concepts Camp for female players entering the sixth through the ninth grades is set at MWHS July 14-18 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The camp costs $85 per player to enter. The cost for single sessions is $55 per player. Oldham and and the Lady Rams coaching staff plan to introduce the campers to systems that are used at the varsity level during the Advanced Skills and Team Concepts Camp.

Journeyman high school basketball coach Rick Penny is set to conduct a five-hour shooting clinic at Mineral Wells High School on May 31. The clinic is open to female players entering the seventh through the 12th grades.

“Rick Penny has been a high school basketball coach for more than 20 years. He’s an excellent instructor,” the second-season Lady Rams basketball coach said. “I will not be allowed to participate in this camp due to UIL rules.”

The cost of the shooting camp is $75 per player.

Rams Basketball Camp slated June 30-July 3



A Rams Basketball Camp at MWHS is scheduled between 9 a.m. and noon June 30-July 3.

Registration is ongoing for the camp, according to Mineral Wells High School Head Basketball Coach David Breazeale.

The camp costs $45 per player and is open to players entering the third through the ninth grades.

The Rams head basketball coach said the camp’s focus will be on the fundamentals of the game of basketball.

Breazeale said he is looking forward to the camps.

“We feel that providing a chance to compete as individuals and to compete in team-play is important as well,” the Rams coach said. “Most of all, we want the boys to have fun and to increase their love of the game of basketball.”

MW Little League Discount Cards on sale



Mineral Wells Little League Association discount cards are currently on sale. The discount cards cost $10 each and include discount prices on items at a number of local retail outlets. The discount cards can be purchased from any Mineral Wells Little League Association softball or baseball player.

Proceeds will be used to buy equipment for Mineral Wells Little League softball and baseball teams.

Optimist Pee Wee Football League registration planned



Sign ups are set to start for the Optimist Pee Wee Football League.

Sign ups will be held at the Optimist Clubhouse on following dates: May 10, 15, 17, 20, 22, 27, 29; June 5-7.

The cost to play in the tackle football league $100 per player.

The cost to play in the flag football league is $60 per player. The participation fee for cheerleaders is $180. A $30 deposit is required upon for players and cheerleaders.

There will be a fundraiser for both the girls and boys to help offset the remaining cost of playing football or cheering, with any outstanding balance due before uniforms will be ordered.

New Peewee Football Association sign ups scheduled in May



Sign ups for players and cheerleaders for the new Palo Pinto County Peewee Football Association are set to start in Mineral Wells.
