Texas Football pick Gordon and Strawn to return to playoffs

WACO — For the last 48 years Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has provided yearly coverage of high school, college and professional football teams from the state.
The 2008 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has coverage of an amazing 1,300 high school football programs.
It also includes coverage of college and professional football teams.
Nearly all of the area team are playing in new districts or districts that have been altered.
The following is a district-by-district look at how teams in districts from Mineral Wells and the surrounding area could do during the upcoming season:

Sixman Division I, District 10
Texas Football picked the tradition-rich Strawn Greyhounds to win the district championship in what could be one of the toughest districts in the state.
Coach Dewayne Lee’s Greyhounds Strawn have nine returning lettermen, including six offensive and six defensive returning starters.
The Greyhounds, 6-5 overall and finished in second place in the district play with a 5-1 record.
The Greyhounds and ended the season with a loss to the Trinidad Trojans in regional quarterfinals play.
Texas Football picks the defending district champion Gordon High School Longhorns to take second place in the race and make a return trip to the state playoffs.
Longhorns head football coach Ty Adams lost seven lettermen to graduation and has eight returning lettermen back from last season’s 9-2 regional semifinalist.
The Longhorns have two returning starters on offense and three defensive returning starters.
Texas Football picks the May Tigers to finish in third place and the Blanket Tigers to finish fourth.
Blanket reached the state playoffs and had a 4-7 record last fall.
Coach Craig Steel’s May Tigers won a district title last year and ended the year with a 9-2 record.
The Gustine Tigers are picked fifth while the Rising Star Wildcats.
Gustine won a district title and reached the state semifinals before ending the season with a 10-4 record.
Rising Star had a 1-9 record last year.
District 15-1A
To hear Texas Football tell it, the Perrin-Whitt Pirates and the Santo Wildcats will finish at the bottom of the District 1A-15 football race.
Texas Football picks the De Leon Bearcats to finish in first place and the Ranger Bulldogs to take second place in the district race.
Texas Football picks the
Gorman Panthers third and the Tolar Rattlers fourth.
The Perrin-Whitt Pirates had a 2-8 season record and are picked to finish in fifth place while Santo had a 1-9 record last year and is picked sixth.

Texas Football picks the Millsap Bulldogs to finish in fifth place in District 9-2A play.
The publication picks the Paradise Panthers take first place and tradition-rich Boyd Yellowjackets to finish in second place ahead of the Alvord Bulldogs.
The Jacksboro Tigers are picked fourth ahead of Millsap while the Chico Dragons are picked sixth.
Millsap posted a 2-8 season record under first season head football coach Kyle Coker last year.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football picks the Aledo Bearcats to win the District 6-4A title.
The Saginaw Boswell Pioneers are picked second while the Saginaw High School Roughriders are picked third.
The Springtown High School Porcupines are picked fourth and the Haltom City Birdville Hawks picked to to take fifth place.
White Settlement Brewer Bears are picked sixth ahead of the Mineral Wells Rams.
The Azle HornetsP were 0-10 last year and are picked eighth.
Notes ... The Mineral Wells Rams will open the season on a 9-game losing streak after a 4-6 record in 2006. Azle has a 3-17 record during the last two seasons.
