Beck new Lady Rams head volleyball coach

Oklahoma native Dave Beck has been named head volleyball coach at Mineral Wells High School.

Beck, who has worked 36 seasons as a high school coach, came out of retirement to take the coaching job as Mineral Wells High School.

Beck, who is also set to work as a girls assistant girls basketball at MWHS, replaced former Lady Rams head volleyball coach Courtney Wright.

Wright, a Weatherford resident, coached at Mineral Wells High School for two seasons before resigning to take a coaching position at Brock High School.

Beck, who had been retired for a year, came to Mineral Wells after a multi-season stint as a coach at Ranger High School.

The new Lady Rams mentor said he likes coaching at MWHS.

“I’ve already been here a couple of weeks, it’s been fantastic,” Beck said. “I like the kind of girls we have here. They’re hard workers.”

Beck said the coaching job in Mineral Wells is one of the few jobs he was willing to come out of retirement to take.

“My wife and I own a ranch on I-20 and it was the kind of job I’ve been looking for,” Beck said. “We were able to stay where we are and we didn’t have to move. I really like coach Oldham. I’m glad to have a chance to coach with him.”

Notes .... Beck, who went to high school in Oklahoma City, said he’s looking forward to holding a Lady Rams volleyball camp at MWHS in late July.

The annual Lady Rams Volleyball Camp is slated between 9 a.m. and noon on July 28-31 at Mineral Wells High School.

The new Lady Rams Head Volleyball Coach Courtney Wright and his coaching staff will be on hand to conduct the camp.

The cost of the camp is $60 per player.

It is open to female players entering the sixth through the ninth grades. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt.
