PERRIN — The Perrin-Whitt High School and junior high school Pirates and Lady Pirates players will be in the spotlight during boosterMeet the Pirates Night at PWHS.

The booster-club-sponsored event is scheduled to start at at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the school‘s new fieldhouse.

Fourth-season Perrin-Whitt High School Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Brad Hutton said the gathering should be fun for the players, coaches and the fans.

“We are asking all junior high and high school players, coaches and parents to attend,” Hutton, who is a former Pirates football and baseball star, said. “We’ll be serving hot dogs and soft drinks.”

Hutton said the Pirates and Lady Pirates players need to bring towels to the event.

“We’re asking everybody to bring a bath towel,” the Perrin-Whitt coach said.

“Girls need to bring a blue towel and boys need to bring a white towel,” Hutton explained. “The athletes will use these towels during games for showers throughout the year.”

Hutton also said a parents meeting is scheduled in conjunction with the event.

“I want to thank the parents for the support they have shown for Pirates athletics,” Hutton said. “We’re looking forward to it should be a lot of fun for all of us.”

The Perrin-Whitt head football coach said rule changes and other segments concerning the school’s athletic programs will be discussed.

“After we eat, we plan to have have junior high and high school parents meetings," the Pirates football coach noted. “We want to discuss rules and concerns that the parents might have for the upcoming year.”

Hutton also said assistant football coach Billy Reed has resigned to take a new coaching job at Springtown High School.

Reed served as the head coach and athletic director at Springtown High School for several decades before he retired.

Reed came out of retirement two years ago and worked as an assistant coach for the Pirates.

“We aren’t going to be able to replace him, we’ll just have one less coach like we had before he came to work here. We’re going to miss him,” Hutton said. “Coach Reed did a great job. He did a lot for our football team and a lot of good things for the school and the players.”

The Pirates set to start two-a-day workouts on Aug. 4.

Notes ... Perrin-Whitt is set to hold scrimmages against Lake Country, Muenster and Ponder on Aug. 16 and 21, respectively

The PWHS Pirates are scheduled to opening pre-district play against the Chico High School Dragons at 7:30 p.m. at Pirates Field on Aug. 29
