Sub-varsity Rams season opener set Thursday

Most folks figure the high school football season starts on Friday night but that’s not exactly true.

While the Mineral Wells Rams varsity team is scheduled to open pre-district play on Friday in Glen Rose, the football season at MWHS is set to start on Thursday with freshman and junior varsity games at Ram Stadium.

Mineral Wells High School Head Football Coach David Bourquin said since Glen Rose only has one freshman team the Mineral Wells freshman A and B teams will be combined for the freshman game.

The freshman opener starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a junior varsity game at 7 p.m.

Notes ... Bourquin plans to talk about Thursday’s sub-varsity games during a Breakfast with Dave meeting that’s slated at 7 a.m. on Friday at Holiday Hills Country Club.

The Rams coach will also take a look ahead at Friday’s varsity season opener at Glen Rose High School during the breakfast meeting.

Rams fans can join Bourquin and members of the team’s coaching staff for a $6 buffet-style breakfast.

Breakfast With Dave meetings are scheduled each Friday morning during the 2008 football season.
