FORT WORTH — The Mineral Wells Rams golf team is a solid young team that is getting better, according to Mineral Wells High School head golf coach Tommy Fincher.
Fincher said his team has shown steady improvement during the fall golf season.
The Rams golf team put together a strong performance in tournament play at the Diamond Oaks Country Club.
Newcomer Daniel Linde shot a 74 in the second round and led the Rams with a two-round total of 157 while freshman Zach Lew carded a 77 in the opening round and had a two-round total of 158.
Dayton Williams posted a two-round total of 186 while Taylor Tomlin came in at 190.
Ben Hellie completed the Mineral Wells scoring with a two-round total of 191.
The Rams posted a 36-hole team total of 691.
The Mineral Wells High School golf coach said he was happy with the way his team held up during two rounds of play at Diamond Oaks.
“I wasn’t sure how my players would handle walking 36 holes without a break but they did great,” Fincher said. “That’s the equivalent of walking about 10 miles while carrying a golf bag, golf balls, towels, an umbrella and a rain coat.”
Fincher said the Rams are getting better and better.
“Our golf team has improved during each tournament. We started the season with a round of 361 in Joshua. We had a round of 341 at the Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth,” the Mineral Wells head golf coach said. “We still have a long way to go to compete with the district teams but I am pleased with our effort and improvement.”
Fincher said all of his players have shown improvement.
“Daniel Linde is a foreign exchange student from Sweden and Zach Lew is a freshman. They’ve really picked up their games and are showing better management skills,” Fincher said. “Dayton Williams, Taylor Tomlin and Ben Hellie are showing signs of improvement in their overall games. I expect them to be in the 80s soon.”
Notes ... The Rams golf team is set to end the fall season on Thursday when the Mineral Wells golf team pays a visit to the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless.
Fincher said he’s looking forward to the tournament.
“This course is one of my favorite links. It will provide a good test for the final outing,” Fincher said.
