MW to host 7th playoff game

Mineral Wells’ new $12 million athletic facility has been a huge hit with teams this postseason. In the first three weeks of the Texas high school playoffs, Ram Stadium landed six postseason games.

You can up that number to seven now. MWISD officials announced recently that Ram Stadium will serve as the playoff site for the Region I I finals game between Archer City and Albany. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The game will feature to Class A powerhouses. Albany comes in the the contest with a 13-0 record. Archer City is 12-0.

Albany, fresh off a 56-13 thumping of Gorman in the regional semifinals, is led into the game by running back Robert Hare. The AHS senior has rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 37 touchdowns this season.

Archer City has emerged as a team to watch in the postseason. The Wildcats upset third-ranked Roscoe two weeks ago and then, last Friday, ousted Lindsay by a 26-9 score.

Lindsay ended Perrin-Whitt’s season in the area round with a 38-10 victory.
