Mineral Wells senior hitters Sydney Shelstead and Kelsey Garland each won superlative awards while junior libero Bethany Allen and senior hitter Niya Benavides each earned first-team honors on the All-District 6-3A volleyball team in a vote of league coaches.
Shelstead, the leading blocker and hitter on the Lady Rams, was named 6-3A’s “Most Valuable Blocker,” while Garland earned the district’s “Most Valuable Server” award.
Allen led the Lady Rams in digs, while Benavides was second on the team in kills.
“I was very proud of the way the Lady Rams were represented in the all-district selections,” Lady Rams head coach Taylor Eggleston said. “The superlative awards showed strengths of both Kelsey and Sydney.
“The first team selections of Bethany and Niya I felt were a credit to their intelligence of the game and how they could ready the court so well. I know they are both extremely athletic, but this year they showed their knowledge of the game.”
Earning second-team honors from Mineral Wells was senior all-around player Taylor Parkhill and senior setter Cassidee McCluskey.
“Taylor and Cassidee were very important pieces of the team,” Eggleston said. “Each of them took on a role and consistently delivered.”
Lady Rams earning honorable mentions were senior defensive specialist Chandler Ortiz, junior setter Erin Burgeson and senior hitter Shay Douglas.
“Each of these girls contributed so much this season,” Eggleston said. “They really took the meaning of the word team to a whole new level.”
