SANTO - Santo closed out a close game with a late 17-11 run as the No. 13 Santo Ladycats held off No. 4 Goldthwaite, 36-30, Friday night at the SHS gym.
"We had a huge turning point in the second half when Goldthwaite took the lead," Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said.
"I told the girls they could keep making excuses or they could execute as they are coached. They collected themselves and took the game back."
Raffaele said the win has helped the Ladycats become the team they "want to be."
"The past six games have been tough but we have come out a better team because of it," Raffaele said.
Chasen Howard led the Ladycats with 11 points, with Breeana Raffaele adding eight.
The Ladycats will begin play Thursday at the Whatabuger Classic in Fort Worth.
