LINGLEVILLE – Jacqueline Berumen scored 22 points and Jayde Price added 20 to lead the Strawn Lady Hounds to a 72-34 victory over Lingleville here Tuesday night in a District 17-A contest.
The win elevates Strawn (14-7) to 2-0 in district play.
Shelly Abbott recorded a double double with 13 points and a game-high 11 assists.
Also scoring were Tearany Atkins with eight points, Cidney Pollock with six and Eva de Gregorio with three.
Strawn jumped out to a 22-4 lead after the opening quarter and built a 33-11 lead at the half.
The Lady Hounds went on a 24-11 run in the third period to take a 57-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
Ladycats defeat Perrin, 52-29
PERRIN – Santo held Perrin to single digits in all four quarters as the Ladycats ran past the Lady Pirates, 52-29, here Tuesday night in the District 11-A opener.
“It was a rough game, and we had several foul out or with four fouls,”Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “Perrin scored 16 of their points on the free throw line.
“I was proud of the way our girls held their composure and continued to play hard for the entire game. Defense is the major equalizer in every game.”
Courtney Flanagan and Taylor Nemeth each scored 11 points to lead Santo.
Also scoring for Santo (13-7, 1-0) were Breeana Raffaele, Chasen Howard and Megan MacPherson, each with seven points, Payton Billue and Callie Wharton, each with four, and Madison Lasater with one.
Santo led 16-6 after the first quarter and 29-15 at the half. The Ladycats went on a 15-7 run in the third period to take a 44-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
In junior varsity action, Santo defeated Perrin, 44-17, as Sadie Gann led the Ladycats with 11 points.
Also scoring for Santo were Reagan Raffaele with seven points, Makaylee Steiner with six, Sage Sparks and Caitlyn Finley, each with five, Jawnee Hess-4 and Lilly Motley, each with four, and Caylin Edwards with two.

After finishing the first day of the Mineral Wells Tournament a perfect 3-0, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams (15-4) were back in action Friday with a double-header to close out the home portion of the tourney.

State slips away
ABILENE – It wasn't the way a community pictured their season ending.
Fresh off of a thrilling 69-65, double-overtime victory over Ira in the regional semifinals, the Graford Jackrabbits' (27-4) bid for their first trip to the state tournament since 2012 fell short Saturday afternoon with a 58-25 loss at the hands of the Water Valley Wildcats (27-5) in the Class 1A-Division II Regional Finals at Abilene Christian University's Moody Coliseum.
Weathering the storm
The 2013-14 season epitomized growth for the Mineral Wells Rams basketball team. Under the tutelage of head coach Aaron Pappas, the Rams played to a 6-4 record in District 6-3A, clinching a third place finish and a fourth-straight playoff appearance.
