Scoring on offense and defense, the Mineral Wells Rams junior varsity held off a late Wichita Falls Hirschi charge as the Rams defeated the Huskies, 14-6, Thursday night at Ram Stadium.

The win evens the Rams JV mark at 1-1.

The game was scoreless when the Rams began their first touchdown drive with 3:38 left in the second quarter. From the MW 37, running back Ezekiel Morequecho carried three straight times to bring the ball down to the Hirschi 26.

On the next play, running back Jarrett Masias scooted 13 yards to the Huskies’ 11. On first and 10, Morequecho blasted 11 yards up the middle and into the end zone for the game’s first score with 1:18 left in the opening half. Richard Munoz booted the extra point to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.

The Rams’ defense came up with the next touchdown.

With Hirschi backed up near its own 20 late in the third period, a high snap flew over the quarterback’s head and was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by MWHS defender Jared Lord.

Munoz was true on the PAT to extend the lead to 14-0.

The Rams’ defense dug in to clinch the contest. Jeffrey Savage ended a Hirschi drive with an interception, and MWHS held Hirschi on downs on the next two series.

The Huskies finally got on the board with 1:33 left to play on a 20-yard touchdown pass. The conversion run failed as the Rams held a 14-6 advantage.

Hirschi’s ensuing kickoff did not travel the required 10 yards as quarterback Matthew Lawhon and the MWHS offense ran out the clock to preserve the victory.

The Rams will play next at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Glen Rose.

Aledo JV B 42, Rams frosh 6

Hirschi does not field a freshman team so the Rams invited the Aledo sophomore (JV B) team to Ram Stadium on Thursday night as the Bearcats came away with a 42-6 win.

The Rams’ lone score came on a 74-yard touchdown run by quarterback Trent Guinn.

On the play, Guinn dropped back to pass while looking to his right. But when his pocket collapsed the signal caller sprinted to his left, raced past two Aledo defenders around the corner and sprinted down the left sideline for the touchdown that cut the Bearcats’ lead to 14-6 with 4:34 left in the second quarter.

The Rams will play next at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against Glen Rose.
