SPRINGTOWN – For the first time this season, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams came away as the victors of a track meet as the MWHS ladies compiled 126 points to win the Pojo Relays, which was held March 22-23 at Springtown.
MWHS fared well overall at the meet as the Rams racked up 104 points to place second.
The Lady Rams were helped by five individual first-place finishes and three second-place finishes.
The MWHS ladies dominated long-distance races as Karessa Fowler won the 3,200-meter run, while Alex Pearcy finished first in the 1,600-meter run.
The Lady Rams also dominated field events. Sydney Shelstead once again won discus, and another multi-gold-medal winner this season, Shay Douglas, earned a gold medal in shot put.
Taylor Parkhill had a huge day, winning pole vault, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles and racing to a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Rams’ proud 400-meter relay team also earned a gold medal which comes with it double points - as the quartet of Omery Trevino, Juvaree Sutton, Kyle West and DaShawn Hicks raced to a first-place time of 43.9.
Hicks also won the 100-meter dash for the fifth consecutive meet.
