Billue pours in 21 to lead Ladycats to win and Albany tourney title

ALBANY – Payton Billue scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Santo Ladycats to a 49-41 victory over Albany Saturday in the championship game of the Albany tournament.

The win raises the state-ranked No. 5 Ladycats to 15-2.

Sarah Van Remmen was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Billue, Taylor Nemeth, Alyssa McKennon and Courtney Flanagan were named to the all-tournament team.

“It was a great team effort,” Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “We only had seven players (Saturday) and everyone contributed.

“I thought Megan MacPherson and Chloe McGlaun played big roles for us (in the championship game).”

Also scoring for the Ladycats were Flanagan with 11 points, Nemeth and McKennon, each with five, McGlaun with three, and Van Remmen and MacPherson, each with two.

Van Remmen led on the boards with 16 rebounds.

“This was a really good tournament for the girls, and I was happy with the result,” Lady Rabbits head coach Jarod Westmoreland said. “We were disappointed with the outcome Friday against Saint Jo because we thought we didn’t play our best game.

“I was not sure how we would play Saturday, but we had our best game of the year.”

Also scoring for the Lady Rabbits were Morgan Hendershott with eight points, Erika Chemello and Ashly Rogers, each with seven, Ashley Hay with six and Katie Rochelle with four.
