FORT WORTH – Stepping into third place all alone and evening up their District 6-3A volleyball record at 2-2, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams swept Fort Worth Diamond Hill, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 here Tuesday night.
The Lady Rams will continue 6-3A play at 5 p.m. Friday at home against Castleberry.
Lady Rams head coach Taylor Eggleston said communication and aggressive serving were two keys to the victory.
“We came through with a victory, an important victory.” Lady Rams head coach Taylor Eggleston said. “We had to work for a lot of points and push through, especially in the first game.
“Communication did pick up as play went along.
“We started allowing Diamond Hill to make mistakes while we minimized our mistakes. This allowed us to capitalize when we needed points the most.
“Overall, we were successful with the win and we are improving.”
Senior hitter Bethany Allen led the Lady Rams with eight kills, with Bailey Simonton adding four. MWHS was also outstanding at the service line as senior setter Erin Burgeson fired four aces, with Sydney Vasquez adding three.
Eggleston hopes the Lady Rams can put together back-to-back wins for the first time in district play. MWHS fell in its opener to Kennedale on Sept. 27 but came back four days later with a win at home over Lake Worth before falling at Springtown on Friday.
“We have to communicate better against Castleberry on Friday,” Eggleston said. “We saw how that helped us (Tuesday) and I always say it is a big key to being successful.”
