Howards scores 17, Billue adds 13 to lead Santo Ladycats over Graham, 66-35

No. 5 Strawn wins big


GRAHAM – Chasen Howard scored 17 points and Payton Billue added 13 to lead the Santo Ladycats to a 66-35 victory over Graham here Tuesday night in the season opener.

Santo led 15-0 after the first quarter and 33-9 at the half.

Also scoring for the Ladycats (1-0) were Breeana Raffaele, Madison Lasatar and Courtney Flanagan, each with nine points, Taylor Nemeth with six, Callie Wharton with three, Megan MacPherson with two and Jaci Trotter with one.

Santo also won the junior varsity game, 69-29, with Sadie Gann leading the Ladycats with 18 points and Lillie Motley adding 14.

Also scoring for the Ladycats were Caylin Edwards with 10 points, Makaylee Steiner, Sage Sparks and Reagan Raffaele, each with seven, Jawnee Hess with five and Caitlyn Finley with one.

No. 5 Lady Hounds win big, 63-32

ABILENE – Jacqueline Berumen recorded a double double with 25 points and 11 rebounds and Shelly Abbott added 16 points and six assists to lead the state-ranked No. 5 Strawn Lady Hounds to a 63-32 win over Abilene Christian School Tuesday night in the season opener.

Also recording double digits in rebounds was Tearany Atkins, who grabbed 11 boards to go along with five points.

Also scoring for Strawn (1-0) were Cori Pollock with five points, and Eva De Gregorio, Kallie Hodgkins and Cidney Pollock, each with four.

Strawn led 21-8 after the opening period and 39-16 at the half. The Lady Hounds put the game away with a 22-10 run in the fourth quarter.

    You can't keep a good team down for long and, as they have indicated this season, the Mineral Wells Rams (14-9, 5-1) are certainly a good team. Four days after a 4-0 loss to Castleberry, during which the Rams mustered only four hits, Mineral Wells came out with a vengeance against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs (2-18, 1-5), riding 10 hits to an 11-0 victory in four-and-a-half innings, Tuesday night, at Pratt Field.
