Two teams were crowned champions in their respective flights Monday at the Pulido’s First Annual Veteran’s Day Tournament at Holiday Hills Country Club.
Sixty-four players and 16 teams were represented at the tournament, titled sponsored by Pulido’s, Holiday Hills Country Club, Ram Country and Powell Auto Center.
The team of Zinn Brown, Mike Powell, Butch Lively and Jerry Chapman won the “championship” flight, with the team of Mike Vollmer, Chuck Reynolds, Robert Landers and Keith Harris finishing second. Third place in the “championship” flight went to the team of Paul Lewis, Darron Donaldson, Matt James and David Biggs.
The “second”flight was won by the team of Eric Lee, Paul Tohshin, Stan Poweel and Eileen Anderson, with second place going to the team of Larry Ward, Jack Hook, Paul Hook and Ben Lathop. Third place went to the team of David Johns, Travis Johns, Michelle Johns and Bruce Land.
Five players earned “closest to the hole” awards on par threes including Zinn Brown (No. 2), Eileen Anderson (No. 4), Keith Harris (No. 9), Bob Manskey (No. 10) and Chris Bartles (No. 12).
“The first Veteran’s Day tournament was a tremendous success,” AMVETS Post 133 Commander Jim Vines said, “due largely to Earon Gatlin and his HCCC staff and many local businesses adding their support by donating items for raffles and supplying T-box signs and banners.
“AMVETS raised nearly $5,000 to continue its efforts in helping veterans and their families in the community and county.
“We are looking forward to next year and the years to come. I also want to give special thanks to T.J. Burge,PGA professional; Jerry Hamilton, the event coordinator;North Texas Honor Guard, Decatur, who posted colors; C.J. Davis, AMVETS Post 133 Chaplin who gave the invocation; Kevin Sewell, Air Force veteran who provided dinner and music; guest speaker (Ret.) Command/Sgt. Major Hayward Bellah II; Neda Vines, Dianne Robertson, Sylvia McMinn and Suzette Widner, Ladies of Post 133; Bobbie Lathrop, adjutant, AMVETS Post 133; Richard Caladrini, Jim Facteau, Denni Robertson and Brandon Robertson, Post 133 members; Ulli Flowerree, WalMart manager and assistant manager Chuck Reynolds; and Jon Ludlum and Ray Powell, Ram Country.
