Holiday Hills Country Club to host couples’ tournament on Jan. 18

Ram Tracking ... By Jerry Hamilton

Holiday Hills Country club will host a couples tournament on January 18.

The one woman-one man scramble will have a shotgun start at 11 a.m.  To enter, call the HHCC pro shop at (940) 325-8403.

Entry fee includes a 10 a.m. brunch and appetizers after play. Also included are range balls, cart and green fee.

Member of the month

Holiday Hills Country Club was named the Chamber member of the month for November.  Earon Gatlin, general manager, has been in charge of operation for just over one year.

Tee Jay Burge was recently hired as the head golf professional. Both are Mineral Wells High School graduates.

Locals capture guys and dolls tourney

Local golfers George Hutton and Linda Hutton captured the 2013 HHCC guys and dolls tournament.

The twosome won the second flight with rounds of 76-71.

Duane and Joy Eaton placed second with rounds of 77-74.

In the championship flight, Ricky Hardin and Maggie Palmer took second with rounds of 69-67.

Palmer can shoot those scores by herself.  Earon Gatlin and Nicole Belanger along with Mike Permenter and Cathy Permenter tied for second in the first flight.

Gatlin and Belanger shot rounds of 73-73 while the Permenter’s shot 74-72.

In the third flight, Marilyn and Terry Bradshaw tied local’s Kerry Gibson and Preston Montalvo for third place.  Both teams shot rounds of 80-76.

Wednesday champion

Six days a week, Wayne Parham can’t break 80, but every Wednesday he shoots 72 or 73.

This has gone on for several years. Parham may be the best golfer HHCC has seen on a Wednesday. He shot the low round this past Wednesday with a 73 out of the 17 golfers entered in the Wednesday play day. Parham is no doubt Wednesday’s Golfer.

He beat Club Champions B.J. Fielding and runner-up Ricky Hardin this past week to claim the Wednesday title for 2013.

Parham has found another day he always plays well and that is in the Oil Belt Senior tournament.

“Wayne may shot 81 or 82 for 10 straight days before he plays in an Oil Belt tournament, but he always shoots 71 or 72 in the tournament.

He is a true champion in my mind,” stated local competitor.

With the Wednesday season ending this past week due to Christmas and New Years Day falling on Wednesday, Parham was named Wednesday player of the year.  He has won the year long championship four of the past five years. Congratulations Wayne.

100 years

This past year was the 100th year of high school sports played at Mineral Wells High School.

A “Team of the Century” will be chosen in all-sports at Mineral Wells High School starting in January.

There will also be top teams chosen in each sport as well as top performers at each position.
