Mineral Wells Index

— This past year was the 100th year of high school sports played at Mineral Wells High School.  A “Team of the Century” will be chosen in all-sports at Mineral Wells High School starting in January.

There will also be top teams chosen in each sport as well as top performers at each position.

Anders leads Aledo to state title

Junior Jess Anders rushed for over 100 yards in leading Aledo to a 38-10 win over powerhouse Brennam in the Class AAAA state championship game.

Anders is the son of former Mineral Wells Rams star Henry Anders Jr. Henry Anders Jr. led Mineral Wells to a 11-1 season back in 1985 and holds numerous MWHS records.

He rushed for more than 1,000 all three seasons during his high school career.

Jess Anders is well on his way to matching his dad’s feats as he rushed for 1,008 yards his sophomore season and 1,545 yards his junior year.

In comparison, Henry Anders Jr. rushed for 1,285 yards his sophomore year and 1,147 his junior year.

Henry finished his senior season with 1,815 yards in 10 games.

In 31 games, Henry rushed for 4,247 yards.  Jess has 2,553 yards in 30 games.

Jess has some catching up to do, but if Aledo wins state again next year as expected, Jess has a shot at breaking his dad’s all time career rushing mark.

The Ander’s have been playing football at MWHS since the mid-sixties. Henry Anders dad, Henry Anders Sr. played on the 1966 Mineral Wells High School district championship team.

His uncle, Wayne Anders, also played on the 1966 team and rushed for over 1,000 yards in his senior year, 1968. Cousin Marcus Anders played on the 1985 District Championship team.  Wayne and Henry Jr. are both members of the Mineral Wells High School Hall of Fame.

North defeats South again

North Texas football teams once again dominated the 2013 list of state champions.

The North defeated the South 10-2 in championship games.
