BRIDGEPORT – Winning their last tournament game, the Mineral Wells Rams went 1-3 at the Bridgeport tournament this past weekend.
The Rams (7-7) played at Venus on Monday in a make-up game and will return home on Friday at 8 p.m. to face Bridgeport.
At the Bridgeport tournament, the Rams fell to Saginaw (68-53), Wichita Falls Rider (69-67) and Wichita Falls High (61-57) before defeating Lindsay, 69-44.
Against Lindsay, Nick Wendt led the Rams with 16 points, with Biren Clardy adding 12. Also scoring were Mark Glover with nine points, Maceo Williams and Broderick Johnson, each with seven, Rascellis Williams with six, Reece Tarver with five, Coy Barrick with four and Juvaree Sutton with three.
The Rams fell to Saginaw in the opener as Clardy led with 19 points followed by DaShawn Hicks and Wendt, each with 12, Sutton with eight, Johnson with three and Rascellis Williams and Barrick, each with two.
The Rams almost stole a win from Rider. With four seconds left to play, Wendt hit a three-pointer and it appeared the game was headed to overtime.
But the Rams fouled Rider with 1.4 seconds left to play as the Raiders canned both charity shots to take a 69-67 lead.
Rascellis Williams received the inbounds’ pass at center court, and his desperation three rimmed out as Rider escaped with the win.
But what made the loss more disappointing was the fact that the Rams held a 39-19 lead at the half but could not hang on for the win.
Clardy and Glover each scored 18 points to lead MWHS. Also scoring were Wendt with 15 points, Rascellis Williams and Sutton, each with five, and Johnson with four.
Against Old High, Clardy paced the Rams with 22 points, with Glover adding eight.
Also scoring were Sutton with seven points, Barrick and Rascellis Williams, each with six, Wendt with five and Derrick Cross with three.
