Ten Santo Wildcats earn 10-A baseball honors

Pitcher Christopher Hoover selected Most Valuable Player; Zane Mauney chosen as Offensive MVP

Ten players from the District 10 champion and regional quarterfinalist Santo Wildcats earned all-district honors in a vote of league coaches.

Two Wildcats seniors – pitcher Christopher Hoover and pitcher/outfielder Zane Mauney each earned superlative awards.

Hoover was chosen as District 10’s Most Valuable Player, while Mauney was named Offensive MVP.

Hoover went 5-1 this season with a 1.71 earned run average. He finished the regular season with 87 strikeouts.

Mauney hit .463 with an impressive .716 slugging percentage.

Three ‘Cats – Garrett Nemeth, Dylan Price and Ty Hunter – each earned first-team, all-district honors.

Nemeth, a junior, was selected as a utility player; Price, a sophomore who hit .470, was selected as an outfielder; and Hunter, also a sophomore, made the first team at both designated hitter and outfield.

Three Santo sophomores earned second-team honors including catcher Keith Chalker, second baseman Kyle Moore and third baseman Dylan Swinney.

A pair of Santo sophomores received honorable mentions including first baseman Grant Gilbert and outfielder Grant Read.
