At a regular meeting of Mineral Wells ISD's Board of Trustees Tuesday night, Mineral Wells Athletics Director and head football coach Gerald Perry announced that the Rams and Lady Rams would be taking up a new banner for athletic apparel in 2014.
The TCU Horned Frogs have a contract with Nike, the Texas Tech Red Raiders only wear Under Amour and now the Mineral Wells Rams will be an Adidas team.
“We've been in discussions with them for a little while now,” Perry said. “Many schools across the state of Texas have gone this route. Most are Nike or Under Armor.
"Adidas was kind of known as a soccer product originally, but they are branching out into football and they're products have improved tremendously. They've got a great, high-quality uniform that will last for many years. The big bidders that you see with Adidas are, of course, Texas A&M … Notre Dame is another Adidas school, and you have Mineral Wells."
Mineral Wells will enter a contract with Adidas that extends to June 30, 2017. During that time, Mineral Wells' football, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, cross country, track, tennis, golf and soccer teams will sport brand new Adidas apparel that comes to the school at a discounted price.
Per the contract, MWISD agrees that athletics students and staff will exclusively wear Adidas products when engaged in athletic-related activities. In exchange, the district will receive a 35-percent discount on all Adidas footwear and a 40-percent discount on all apparel and accessories.
This means the Rams and Lady Rams will have access to new shoes for competition, training and travel as well as new game and practice uniforms, training, travel and camp T-shirts and accessories ranging from travel bags and headwear to socks, wrist bands and game gloves.
