Rams face Bucs at home today

Coming off their first win of the 2013-14 basketball season, the Mineral Wells Rams will hope to make it two in a row when they host the Breckenridge Bucaroos at 7:30 p.m. today at the Mineral Wells High School gym.

The freshman game will tip off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the junior varsity contest at 6 p.m.

The Rams evened their record at 1-1 after a 75-51 win over Graham on Friday.

Junior guard Biren Clardy led the Rams with 18 points, but three other Rams also scored in double figures.

Mark Glover recorded 13 points, Broderick Johnson added 12 and leading scorer DaShawn Hicks finished with 11.

Also scoring for the Rams (1-1) were Coy Barrick with six points, Nick Wendt with five, Juvaree Sutton with four, and Rascellis Williams, Maceo Williams and Deter Cross, each with two.

The Rams helped themselves by hitting 12 of 15 shots from the free throw line, led by Clardy’s four-for-four effort.

MWHS nailed six three-pointers against Graham, with Hicks and Clardy sinking two each.

Johnson led the Rams on the boards with seven rebounds, with Wendt adding six and Barrick four.

The Rams jumped out to a 20-12 lead and, thanks to a 21-4 run in the second quarter, but a 41-16 advantage at the half.

Graham outscored MWHS 17-16 in the third period to cut the Rams’ lead to 57-33 as the contest moved to the fourth quarter.

In sub-varsity action, the Rams junior varsitywon, 75-50, and the freshman team Rams also came away victorious.

    You can't keep a good team down for long and, as they have indicated this season, the Mineral Wells Rams (14-9, 5-1) are certainly a good team. Four days after a 4-0 loss to Castleberry, during which the Rams mustered only four hits, Mineral Wells came out with a vengeance against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs (2-18, 1-5), riding 10 hits to an 11-0 victory in four-and-a-half innings, Tuesday night, at Pratt Field.
