BURLESON – Courtney Peña scored a team-high 13 points and Natalie Ragland and Tabby Santibanez each added 12 to lead the Mineral Wells Lady Rams to a 51-45 victory over Class 5A Keller Central Saturday at the Lady Spartan Classic at Burleson Centennial High School.
The Lady Rams (1-4) fell to Waco Midway in the opener, 57-28, lost to Paschal, 36-28, and dropped a 42-36 decision to Chisholm Trail.
“This was a very tough tournament that consisted of mainly Class 4A and 5A schools,”Lady Rams head coach Leslie Holman said.”We gave up too many offensive rebounds, and that stat alone was the difference in winning or losing in the Paschal and Chisholm Trail games.
“To win games you have to control the boards, especially on the defensive end. We had the early lead in both games but our inability to rebound cost us the lead and ultimately the games.
“We will definitely use this week in practice to concentrate on blocking out and rebounding.”
Against Midway, Ragland led with 12 points, with Santibanez adding 10. Also scoring were Ashley Valdez with four points and Ashlynn Robinson with two.
Against Paschal, Ragland led with 10 points and Pam Hopkins added five. Also scoring were Peña and Kera Harrison, each with four points, Santibanez with three and Megan Powell with two.
Against Chisholm Trail, Ragland led with 11 points followed by Santibanez with 10. Also scoring were Peña, Robinson and Harrison, each with four, and Valdez and Powell with two.
