Lake Worth took advantage of seven Mineral Wells errors as the Bullfrogs upset the Rams, 10-4, Tuesday night in a District 6-3A game at Pratt Field.
Brandon Martinez was the starting pitcher and took the loss for the Rams.
“Our pitching was pretty good through three innings,” Rams head coach Bret Barrick said. “But Brandon got tired and walked three batters.
Chris (Rapp) came in and did a good job and only walked one and hit a batter.”
The Bullfrogs took advantage of the free passes and scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning.
The Rams tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the fourth but failed to score for the remainder of the game.
Lake Worth added three runs in the fifth, another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to close the scoring.
Martinez allowed one hit and three walks while striking out three. Rapp allowed eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
“We committed seven errors in the infield,” Barrick said. “We got to all of those balls but simply didn’t make the plays.
“The bounces were definitely not going our way. We also panicked a little when they took the lead in the fifth.
“I think we pressed a little trying to make things happen.
“We hit the ball pretty well early but pressed at the plate in the late innings. And when we did hit the ball hard it went right at them.
“We are a young team, and we can recover from this and learn from it. I feel this game will benefit us down the stretch as we learned a lot from it.
“We just have to go back to work and concentrate on getting better every day, and go out and perform when we get the chance.
“We still have a lot of baseball left to play, and we will take it one game at a time, one inning at a time, and one pitch at a time.”
The Ram had just two extra base hits as Martinez and Dan Reay Turk each recorded a triple.
