MWJH 8th grade Lady Rams defeat Hall in hoops action

On Nov. 21, The Mineral Wells Junior High eighth grade “A” team Lady Rams defeated Weatherford Hall, 36-7.

Leading the Lady Rams were point guard Sunni Lemley with 11 points, followed by post Kaylee Gregory with nine points and wing Kierra Pruitt with eight. Other Lady Rams scoring were Mia Ragland with six points Brittany Barbee with three points while Maddison Gibbs and Montanna Choate both had two points for the night. Leading the Lady Rams in blocked shots was Sunni Lemley with four blocked shots and Gregory with three. Leading the Lady Rams in rebounds were Sunni Lemley with six, Choate five rebounds and Gregory with four. Leading the Lady Rams in steals were Lemley with four while Barbee and Pruitt both had three steals for the night.

“Overall, this was a great first game for these Lady Rams who show great hustle and heart on the court,” head coach Jeff Brumfield said.

Rams 7th boys take 2 of 3

The MWJH  seventh grade boys basketball team played three great games, taking two out of three games.

The “C” team won 28-5. The team was lead by offensively by Scott Leek with 18 points, and defensively by Stephen Thomas, who recorded 10 steals.

The “B” team won 34-24. The Rams was lead by Angel Batrez, who scored 12 points and lead the team in assists. David Arais, Irving Batrez and Issac Gray also helped to balance out a good attack that lead to their victory.

The “A” team fought hard all the way down to the final horn losing a close game, 28-25. Dijia Kennedy led with 11 points. The defense was strong keeping the Rams in the fight and the whole team contributed to a great game.

Ladies 8th B team falls in OT

On Nov. 21, the eighth grade Lady Rams “B” team took on the, always tough, Hall Roos.

The Lady Rams came out strong finishing the first half with an eight-point lead. The Roos fought back and the game ended in a 21-21 tie. In the three-minute overtime period the Lady Rams were able to sink two shots for four points, but the Roos managed a two-point jumper and converted three free throws for a 26-25 win.

Leading scorer for the Lady Rams was Tatum Wharton with six points. Top rebounders were Courtney Helgesen and Beatriz Martinez, each with seven boards, followed by Kelsey Davis with six. I think the police should keep a close eye on Beatriz Martines, she is a master theef,  Beatriz had 12 steals. Great game ladies.

8th boys down Hall

On Nov. 21, the Mineral Wells Junior High eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Weatherford Hall 35-32 in their first game of the season. 

The Rams held a 19–12 lead going into the half, but Hall closed the gap early in the third quarter making the second half of the game a close contest that saw the Rams fall behind 28-26 with three minutes remaining in the game, but the Rams quickly tied the game on a basket by Sevens Seargent and then pulled away with under the leadership of Troy Bradshaw who lead all scorers with 20 points.  Defensively, the Rams were led by the outstanding hustle of Ivan Vega and Tyler Johnson as they both made it difficult on Hall to pass the ball throughout the night.

8th B boys fall

In eighth-grade boys “B” team action, the Rams fell to Weatherford Hall 31-22.

The Rams showed flashes of playing very well most of the game, it was a tough second quarter when the Rams were not able to get their shots to fall that allowed Hall to pull away for their victory. The Rams were led defensively by Juan Silva and Skiler Martin throughout the contest as they made it difficult for Hall to penetrate to the basket through their hustle and determination on the court.

Leading all scorers in the contest was Micheal Gonzalez with eight points.

8th C boys fall

 The Rams “C” team had the toughest night for the eighth grade boys losing 32-14.

They faced man to pressure the entire contest from Weatherford Hall which disrupted their offensive rhythm.  The boys continued to play hard and played well defensively themselves.

Scoring was led by Evan Wade and Edgard Munoz.

Ladies 8th C falls

The 8th grade “C” team played great but lost a heartbreaker by one point in overtime against Weatherford Hall.

Scoring for the Lady Rams were Shaaylee Pesqueda with six points followed by Jordan Boyd with four points, while  Savannah Tuggle and Macy West both had two points each.

Rebounding well wereSavannah Tuggle with eight boards for the game followed by Macy West with four rebounds.

Leading the Lady Rams in steals were Savannah Tuggle with five followed by Erlene Ramos with four.

“Overall these Lady Rams played great and show a lot of heart and hustle last night,” coach Jeff Brumfield said.”
