BURLESON – The Mineral Wells Water Moccasins city swim team was in action once again last weekend, June 21, at their second meet of the season in Burleson.
Mineral Wells swimmers took first-place finishes in nine different events with another 14 events in which at least one Water Moccasin posted a top-three mark.
The Mocs started the day with a bang, as the team of Kimberly Lawler, Russell Richards, Gary Robinson and Mindy Robinson posted a time of 2:16.01 to win the mixed 18-99 200-yard medley relay over the rival Weatherford Water Roos by five seconds.
Later in the day, Richards and Mindy Robinson would each grab second place finishes with a 44.97 mark in the men's 40 and over 50-yard breaststroke and a 1:25.82 time in the women's 18-24 50-yard breaststroke, respectively.
Megan Waldrum was the next local swimmer to finish first, completing the girl's 11-12 100-yard freestyle in 1:14.50. She finished fractions of a second in front of teammate Hanna Farber, whose time was 1:14.87.
Waldrum also earned first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 42.44. Again in that event, a Mineral Wells teammate was close behind for second place as Page Riney posted a 48.22 clip.
Waldrum's third and final golden event of the day was the 50-yard freestyle, which she won in 33.10 to give her a clean sweep in all her events. Mineral Wells swimmers occupied each of the top three spots in this freestyle with Samantha Ashley and Hannah Farber behind Waldrum in second and third with times of 33.87 and 34.38, respectively.
Although Ashley came in behind Waldrum in the freestyle, she made sure to top the podium for herself, winning the 50-yard backstroke in 40.03 seconds. For a second time, Page Riney finished second behind a Mineral Wells teammate with a time of 47.05.
The remaining four first-place finishes were won by three different swimmers.
