The district champion and state quarterfinalist Strawn Greyhounds placed 11 players on the All-District 12 six man Division II football team and had two players earn superlative awards in a vote of league coaches.
Sophomore Coletyn King was selected as the district’s Offensive Player of the Year. King also captured a spot on the all-district first team on defense at safety.
Junior Harrison Nowak earned Defensive Player of the Year honors at cornerback while also being named the district’s first-team quarterback.
Two other Strawn players earned first-team status on both offense and defense including junior Abram Jaramillo (wide receiver/cornerback) and sophomore Ross Alison (running back/linebacker).
Sophomore Chase Mackey (center/special teams/nose guard) was the lone ‘Hound to make the first team at three different positions.
Other District 12 first-team selections include tight end Zane Whitt and defensive lineman Cole Gillispie of Moran; and spread back/cornerback Ben Boucher, running back/kicker/utility player Samuel Rodriguez, linebacker Dakota Harding, safety Tommy Gann and wide receiver Herman Reyes of Rising Star.
District 12 all-star representatives include Velasquez of Strawn, Harding and Rodriguez of Rising Star and Hernandez of Moran.
