TROPHY CLUB – The Mineral Wells Water Moccasins city swim team took to the pool once again June 28 and showed valiant effort against some tough competition at its latest meet in Trophy Club.
Racing against the likes of Keller, Coppell and host Trophy Club, Mineral Wells' swimmers finished first twice in direct competition with other clubs. Both wins were keyed by 11-year-old Meagan Waldrum.
As an individual in the girls 11-12-year-old division, Waldrum took first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 41.42 seconds and came in second in the 50-yard freestyle in 33.89 to beat out five Mineral Wells teammates. Although a Keller swimmer won first in the freestyle, Water Moccasins rounded out the top four with Paige Riney in third with a 34.02 clip and Samantha Ashley in fourth with a time of 34.23.
Waldrum's second win came as part of the girls 11-12 freestyle relay. Alongside Ashley, Riney and Kennady Richards, Waldrum and the Mineral Wells girls beat out Trophy Club for first place by almost six seconds with a 2:19.05 mark.
Mineral Wells swimmers also earned two more first-place finishes in races exclusively against teammates. In the women's 25-39 division, Amanda Boles won the 50-yard freestyle, beating out teammate Mindy Robinson with a time of 48.74.
Also winning against a teammate was Gary Robinson, who took first in the men's 40 and over 50-yard freestyle in 29.12, ahead of Russell Richards who finished in 31.95.
Richards also swam uncontested in the 50-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 44.20. Boles did the same in the 50-yard backstroke, finishing in 56.76.
Mineral Wells swimmers finished in second place five additional times.
The 11-12-year old girls added to an already solid day, as Riney took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:18.76 and Ashley was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke with a 39.55 mark.
