Millsap selects Lee as new head volleyball coach

By CLINT FOSTER

MILLSAP – The board of trustees at Millsap ISD recently announced their hire of Denise Lee as the new head volleyball coach for Millsap High School.

Previously holding the same position in Gorman ISD, Lee took the Lady Panthers volleyball team to the Class 1A playoffs in 2013, where they would eventually lose in the regional semifinals to Thrall. In addition to her position as Gorman's head volleyball coach, Lee also served as the school's head coach for girls basketball, track and tennis and the girls' athletics coordinator.

Prior to her time in Gorman, Lee coached in nearby Strawn ISD. In all, Lee has seven years of professional education experience.

Just as she did in Gorman, Millsap ISD said in a press release that Lee will also serve as Millsap's girls' athletics coordinator and assistant girls basketball coach in addition to her head volleyball duties.

"We are pleased to announce Denise Lee as our new head volleyball coach at Millsap High School," Millsap Athletics Director Ron Berry said. "Denise is a proven winner in volleyball after taking a young Gorman High School squad to the regional tournament this past season. She will continue the building process of the Lady Bulldog volleyball program at Millsap High School.”

Lee spoke enthusiastically about her new position in Millsap ISD.

"I am very excited to be a Millsap Lady Bulldog and look forward to having an outstanding year," she said. "I want to thank coach Berry and the administration for giving me this opportunity. I would also like to thank the parents and the athletes for the hospitality they have shown me.

"The Lady Bulldogs coaching staff and I have been working hard this summer and will continue pressing on to represent our school and community to the best of our ability.”

Lee represents the second new coaching hire by Millsap ISD this summer. In mid-June, the Bulldog brass tabbed Ed Padalecki as the high school's new head baseball coach.

  • FB Gordon at Strawn b8.jpg FWIW: Good, clean hate – Ranking the area's best rivalry games of the 2014 football season

    By CLINT FOSTER

Football season is fast approaching and with it those glorious games between teams that love to hate each other, which we call rivalries.

I'm speaking, of course, about sports hate – the only beautiful kind. It's the stuff built on history and tradition that inspires simply the fiercest and most entertaining games of every season.

Palo Pinto County and the surrounding area have no shortage of fierce football rivalries.

The University Interscholastic League's realignment often causes new rivalries to be born and old ones to be rekindled. But which rivalries are the area's very best for 2014? The one's you circle your calendar for and make sure you don't miss.

I can think of at least 10.

So, for what it's worth, here's my list of the area's best, can't-miss football rivalries of the upcoming 2014 season.
