SAGINAW – Starting the district season at 2-0, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams soccer team defeated Springtown, 7-0, on Friday, and Saginaw Chisholm Trail a week ago.
Against Springtown, Mollie Martinez scored three goals, with Bre Hinojos, Kaleigh Aaron, Caroline Clarke and Erin McGuire each adding a goal.
Hinojos recorded two assists with Aaron adding a helper.
Against Chisholm Trail, Bre Hinojos scored a pair of goals to lead the Lady Rams soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Saginaw Chisholm Trail Tuesday in the District 12-4A opener.
The Lady Rams trailed early but came back in decisive fashion. Chisholm Trail took a 1-0 lead just six minutes in the game.
“This seemed to be a wake up call for us,”Lady Rams head coach John Tuggle said.
Sixteen seconds later, Hinojos answered with a driving score to tie the game 1-1, where it would stay at the half.
The Lady Rams trailed early in the second half when 25 seconds into the half Chisholm Trail scored for a 2-1 lead.
But once again, this just ignited the Lady Rams as Kylie Williams, Kaleigh Aaron, Hinojos, and Alana Holly found the back of the net to secure the win.
The Lady Rams had 30 shots on goal compared to Chisholm Trail’s six.
Kaleigh Aaron led the Lady Rams in assists with two, with Jasmine Rojo and Caroline Clarke each adding a helper.
“The defense, though allowing two goals, stepped well after the second goal against,” Tuggle said. “We are excited to begin district with a win. We look forward to a good game against Springtown.”
The Lady Rams will play at Springtown at 5:30 today, with the boys’ match to follow.
Soccer Rams drop first two district matches
The Mineral Wells Rams soccer team dropped district matches to Saginaw Chisholm Trail, 4-2, a week ago, and 3-2 at Springtown on Friday.
“(On Friday) at Springtown we played one of our better games,” Rams head coach Rolando Borjon said. “We had about 60 percent of possession during the match. We went up on 1-0 by a goal from Zach Gray and at half the score was 1-1.
