The Mineral Wells Junior High Lady Rams eighth-grade A Team played great volleyball on Thursday night but came up just short of a win in a three-game match with Burleson Hughes.
The Lady Rams won a decisive victory in the first game, 25-17, and continued to play well in the second and third games but came up just short of a victory.
“Overall, it was a great match with some very exciting high intensity volleyball with great hits, digs, and kills,” Lady Rams coach Jeff Brumley said.
Leading the Lady Rams in passing were Sunni Lemley with a whopping 57 passes to target followed by Madison Gibbs with 38 big passes to target and Kaylee Gregory with 32 passes to target.
Leading the Lady Rams in spikes were Madison Gibbs with four kills and three spikes, followed by Kaylee Gregory with two kills and three spikes and Sunni Lemley with a kill and four spikes.
Cali Pilgrim recorded two kills and three spikes.
Blocking well at the net were Sunni Lemley with four blocks, Kaylee Gregory with two blocks and Caitlyn Blue with one block.
Playing well in the back of the court were Beatriz Martinez with 10 digs, Pond Blackner with nine digs, Daniela Vera with seven digs, and Tatum Wharton with three digs.
“In spite of a tough loss, these Lady Rams are playing very good volleyball with lots of hitting, digging and diving for loose balls,” Brumfield said. “They continue to improve their game each and every week and are very exciting to watch.”
