Strawn soph Coletyn King earns all-region Defensive MVP, first-team running back honors; six other ‘Hounds make all-region team

Strawn sophomore defensive back Coletyn King was selected as the six man, Division II, Region III  Defensive Most Valuable Player in a vote of the region coaches.

The Region III Offensive MVP was Newcastle senior quarterback Tyler Mays, with his coach, Ty Spitzer, and the Newcastle staff earning Staff of the Year honors in the region.

King, who was also selected as Region III’s first-team running backs, was one of seven Greyhounds at nine positions to make the All-Region III first team.

In addition to King on the all-region first team on offense, Strawn senior tight end Izaac Velasquez earned first team honors along with junior wide receiver Abram Jaramillo, sophomore center Chase Mackey, junior quarterback Harrison Nowak, and junior fullback Jacob Trujillo.

Greyhounds earning all-region, first team honors on defense also include Mackey at nose guard, sophomore linebacker Ross Alison and Nowak at cornerback.

Alison also earned all-region, second-team honors at running back.

Rounding out the All-Region III, first team on offense are Newcastle tight end Nathan Wilson, Guthrie wide receiver Kylor Gilbreath, Newcastle running back H.R. Shields, Vernon Northside spread back Jody Baranat, Newcastle utility back Ryan Hardin and Chillicothe special teams player Denzel Graves.

Other all-region, first team players on defense include Newcastle defensive lineman Wilson, Jayton defensive lineman Garrett Reynolds, Guthrie defensive lineman Tucker Brendle, Newcastle cornerback Shields, Newcastle safety Hardin, Guthrie safety Zac O’Neal, Guthrie utility player Landon Roberts and Harrold punter Matt Templeton.
