The Mineral Wells Lady Rams soccer team ended their season on a high note with a 1-0 victory over the Brewer Lady Bears on the road, Tuesday night.
Six different Lady Rams registered shots on goal. Caroline Clarke led the way with four, including the game's lone score with about 10 minutes left in the second half.
The shutout meant a perfect night for Mineral Wells goalie, Brittany Smith, who posted five saves.
The Lady Rams' defense limited Brewer to just six shots total and three corners.
The win puts Mineral Wells at 9-11-1 to finish the season, including a 6-7-1 mark in District 12-4A – just one game shy of playoff qualification.
Head coach John Tuggle had mixed emotions following the win.
"We are all obviously disappointed that we did not make the playoffs," he said. "Keys injuries at the wrong time were probably the number one factor that prevented us from the playoffs.
"I am extremely proud of our team for playing so hard when we all knew this was our last game. To end the season with a victory is always a positive, but defeating Brewer at Brewer on their senior night for the fourth consecutive year is icing on the cake."
On the JV side, Mineral Wells played to a 0-0 tie to end their season at 6-3-1 (4-3-1 in district).
"I feel like we accomplished 2 major goals," Tuggle said of his JV squad.
"My two goals were to have the number of players to compete throughout the season and for each player to have an opportunity to develop in the game.
"I am very excited about the future of our program in regards to being able to offer another level of soccer that can accommodate the sub varsity skill level and speed of the game. I expect our JV team to be even more competitive next year. As a result of this, the level of play at the varsity level will improve as well."
Also, with regards to the future, Tuggle said he expects to find out the Lady Rams' new district for next season by the last week of April.
No matter what district they play in, the Lady Rams are sure to be competitive, as they return all of their starters, including Breanna Hinojos, Kylie Williams,Kylie Burke, Clarke, Smith and the Malone sisters: Mason and Peyton.
