AUSTIN – All he does, each and every time he laces up his track cleats for competition, is win.
It is one thing to blow through regular high school track meets and win the boys’ 100-meter dash, and it is quite another to win that race in the state’s largest and most respected track meet of the year, the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Mineral Wells junior sprinter DaShawn Hicks continues to impress.
After placing first in every regular high school track meet he has entered this year, Hicks showed he was the best of the best when his time of 10.62 won the boys’ 100-meter dash at the Texas Relays.
Other Mineral wells runners and field event competitors competed at the Texas Relays but did not place.
The rest of the MWHS track team competed at the Boyd Relays on Thursday, led by a first-place finish by senior Jacoby Prestwood in shot put.
A.J. Williams earned a silver medal for a second-place finish in high jump, and Jared Lord earned a silver medal in pole vault.
The highest Lady Rams also had a competitor earn a gold medal as Karessa Fowler won the girls’ the 3,200-meter run.
Earning silver medals for the Lady Rams were Ashlynn Robinson (300-meter hurdles), Fowler (1,600-meter run) and Madie Pappas (long jump).
The next MWHS meet will be the District 6-3A meet which will be held April 10-11 at the Jackie Harvey Track Complex.

Rams climb on
You can't keep a good team down for long and, as they have indicated this season, the Mineral Wells Rams (14-9, 5-1) are certainly a good team. Four days after a 4-0 loss to Castleberry, during which the Rams mustered only four hits, Mineral Wells came out with a vengeance against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs (2-18, 1-5), riding 10 hits to an 11-0 victory in four-and-a-half innings, Tuesday night, at Pratt Field.
Lady Rams trounce Lake Worth, 15-0, in three innings on Keeton's almost perfect night
In a game that was just short of perfect on multiple levels, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams (22-6, 6-1) dismantled the Lake Worth Lady Frogs, 15-0, in just three innings, Tuesday night at Kessler Field.
