Millsap names Berry new head girls’ hoops coach

MILLSAP – Millsap I.S.D. announced the selection of coach Ron Berry as the head girls coach for the Millsap High School basketball team.

Berry is coming to Millsap from Midland High School, where he was the girls head varsity coach the past two seasons.

Before coaching at Midland, Berry worked at Cisco High School and Stephenville High School, in addition to other schools during his 41 years in the coaching profession. Coach Berry has a career coaching record of 768 wins and 333 losses.

While at Midland High School, Coach Berry’s teams won the District 3-5A championship and in the 2012-2013 season the team record was 23-10.

His teams at Midland High School made the playoffs both years he was at the school. Coach Berry was named District 3-5A Coach of the Year while at Midland High.

Before going to Midland, he coached at Cisco High School where his teams were area finalists in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, and he was named district Coach of the Year twice.

Over his 41 years in coaching, Berry’s teams have reached the regional finals four times, regional semi-finals eight times, regional quarter finals 12 times, area finals 16 times and bi-district round 19 times. He has been selected district coach of the year 19 times in his career and has coached the Texas Girls Coaches Association and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-star games.

Coach Mark Osina, Millsap I.S.D. Athletic Director, stated, “We are all very excited to welcome Coach Berry to Millsap. He brings a wealth of experience to our program and will help our students develop into great athletes and people.

“We are excited that Coach Berry is joining the family in Millsap.”

Berry is married to Rulene Berry and has two daughters. He is a graduate of Lipan High School. He attended Weatherford College and Tarleton State University.

A reception for Coach Berry and his wife Rulene is being planned.  Details will be announced when a date and time are determined.
