Both the Mineral Wells Rams baseball team and Lady Rams softball took road trips Tuesday evening that did not quite go as planned. The Rams were dealt an 8-2 loss by the Eastland Mavericks, while the Lady Rams game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Despite a solid game from McCain Mason featuring a team-leading two hits and six strikeouts, the Rams could not overcome the Mavericks in Eastland, falling 8-2.
The Mavericks pitched five scoreless innings, four of which came in the game's first four frames. Mason kept the Rams within one run through the first three innings, but Eastland broke the game open with a three-run fourth, a one-run fifth and another three runs in the sixth.
In addition to Mason, Paden Patino had a successful day, earning a hit, a walk and an RBI. In all, the Rams totaled five hits and two errors.
The Rams will take the diamond again today in opening of the Bowie Tournament.
Lady Rams softball
The Lady Rams' road matchup against Tolar was called in the second inning due to lightning. At the time, the Lady Rams led the Rattlers, 1-0, thanks to a run scored by Anaiz Mendoza.
Because the game did not last the required five innings, Lady Rams head coach David Tarver said the game will be voided on the schedule. However, he added they will look into finding a game to reschedule in its place.
